BRIDGING SUFFERING WITH AWAKENING

Foundation for Global Awakening is based on a 38-year old private foundation, Van Camp Foundation, which for the past 10 years has focused primarily on ways to alleviate human suffering at a community and family level. During this time, over three million dollars have been given as direct grant agreements to non-profit organizations doing innovative work in the areas of family violence, social trauma, and sexual abuse. Countless numbers of women, children, and families have directly benefited from VCF's compassionate philanthropic vision.

As Van Camp Foundation has primarily been concerned with suffering, the question regarding the root of trauma and violence needed to be addressed. As long as humanity operates under the old paradigms of fear, separation and conflict, there will continue to be trauma generated at all levels from war, natural disasters and social conflicts. As individuals and communities heal from these old patterns, we find that new patterns are needed to reinforce healing and to help humanity understand the relationship between our ideals and our inner knowing. The solutions to conflict and fear lie in understanding the deeper implications of spirituality. Therefore, our emphasis has shifted from exploring the effects of fear and conflict, to the coordination and facilitation of new paradigms that do not engender these effects. Individual and global awakening creates a bridge that heals, and eventually eliminates, the sources of human suffering.

VCF repositioned itself to form Foundation for Global Awakening. Accordingly, FGA's new mission is to develop large-context strategies which support many projects begun by diverse people throughout the world, projects deliberately aligned with the new consciousness of social and spiritual awakening.

Its goal is now to invite other spiritual-philanthropic and related parties to join together in forming what has been termed a Funding and Resourcing Center devoted to spiritual awakening. To this end, a unique experimental non-profit project center was begun in 1997, called Fund For Global Awakening. FFGA was developed to simultaneously create new structures, processes and content specifically designed to help the emerging new consciousness of spiritual awakening.
